Unfortunately, though, most Vancouver Mountain bike riders and roadies only think of push ups, pull ups and some crunches when the words “bodyweight exercises” are mentioned. While these exercises are fine, they are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this type of training.
When challenging Core Work-outs, exercises and variations are used, bodyweight training is very effective for building real strength and endurance for that race or just Hitting the Local Vancouver trails. As mountain bikers it is usually the endurance that we need to work on along with strength training and Postural Correction since we get that on the bike for so many hours. Using Proper Techniques to strengthen the Smaller “Smarter Fine movement” Core and Stabilizer Muscles instead of the Big “DUMB” muscles will help your Riding Style and balance.

It is amazing how many people in the Mountain Bike Culture simply do not know where they are in space in relation to their bike. This makes learning the new skills you trying to Learn difficult to pick up since you do not know or have the right strength to control your body and bike as needed to while Blasting down a Big DH trail or on an epic XC ride. This will also increase the likelihood of crashing since you do not know how to Activate and “stay loose” and let things flow when it gets a little hairy, which is an inevitable thing if you ride actual trails instead of just spinning on fire roads.
