Wanna lose the dad bod? Beginner workouts for Males

A lot of people can be intimidated when it comes time to start a fitness program or working out if they haven’t done it for a while or if your a beginner. I remember when I started it was very daunting and I didn’t know where to start. Many Dad’s have settled into being accustomed to being a dad, and they have let their body get lost in the shuffle.

Finding the time to workout.

However, when the kids are at school or at an activity, dad’s may have a little bit of free time, and they can take advantage of this bonus self-time.  Instead of simply just sitting on the couch and watching a Netflix show, or playing video games while waiting Dad can start with some workouts that are suitable for their body and conditions.

Start at the beginning, don’t try to be a hero.

The key thing to remember is you want to walk before you run.  You don’t want to push yourself too hard too soon because if you haven’t worked out for a few months, a year or more or just starting out in the gym for your very first time. If you do too much, you will have a greater risk of hurting yourself. If you ever feel light-headed or nauseous ( lay down) until the feeling subsides, if you feel pain in a joint or electrical shock feeling stop and seek a Physiotherapist.

Take a walk. Take it Slow at First.

Your beginner fitness program can begin by simply going outside and taking a walk.  Once you get comfortable with movement and going outside, you can start to take it up a notch when it comes to steps and miles.  You might only want to do one or two miles a day at the beginning of your workout.

When you are looking to start a beginner workout, you have to listen to your body.  It will tell you what it can and cannot handle. Being men some of us see one guy doing something cool, heavy or whatever so that means we can do the same weight or exercise, and this is not always the case, After a while, you will start to get into a fitness groove.  Once you are in that groove, you can decide how many more miles and steps you want to increase your workout to on a day-to-day basis.

Beginner workouts for Vancouver

If you live in a city like Vancouver or surrounding area where you have good weather most of the time, with the occasional period of rain ;), there is truly no excuse for not getting out there and walking.  It is far and away the simplest way to start a workout if you have not done one in a while. All you need is a workout shirt and some pants or shorts, a good pair of running shoes and you are good to go outside.  It’s always great to feel the fresh air hit your face and get you motivated and inspired.  While you may not see results right away, consistency is the key before long, you will start to see the pounds start to come off, new muscles developing, and you will start to feel more energized too.

From beginner to next level. Crawl, Walk, Bike!

If you’re looking to take it up a notch after you have done walking as a beginner workout, it is always great to get on your bicycle.  You know the bicycle I’m talking about: The one that has been locked away in your garage or storage locker for the longest time. It is time to pull that bad boy out and put it to use.  If you need a bike, you could always have one delivered. You can get a bike on amazon or you can go to your local bike shop. Riding your bike is an even quicker, faster, and not to mention a fun way to lose weight and stay in shape. After all, if you are a father, you want to be in the best possible shape for your child.  You want to make sure you are healthy and live a long strong life to be around for all of those precious moments and keep up to your grandchildren or at least live your life stronger and more mobile.

The great thing about biking or walking is that anyone can do it because you have two feet or you know how to ride a bike.  Even if someone doesn’t know how to ride a bike, it is easy to learn. As the old expression goes, “It’s like riding a bike.”  Even if you haven’t done it in a while, once you are back on the bike, you will start to remember what it was like and how much you enjoyed it.  It will bring you back to that youthful time in your life when you used to get out on that bike each and every single day as a kid.

Getting a Gym Membership, or a home gym.

If you spend a lot of time at home because of your children or your job, it would also be wise to invest A gym membership just to get out of the house or if you need to be at home investing in an elliptical trainer or a treadmill and an area in your home for your home gym.  They are inexpensive, and it beats going to the gym if that is not your thing.

A lot of people are not comfortable with going to the gym, and that is completely OK. After all, this workout to get yourself in shape is all about making you comfortable and happy again. The VERY #1 thing always is to put good intentions into your workout enjoy yourself

(now nobody truly enjoys the moment but afterwards you can appreciate it…… right?….. crickets).

Use positivity

Congratulate yourself with positive talk don’t be critical of yourself. If it becomes too stressful or you feel as though it is not enjoyable, the chances are not very high that you will continue to work out and see results. If it’s fun and you will see results, you will keep up with it and progress through your fitness journey.

Workout with music

If you choose to workout at home This is also great if you want to catch up on television and the news or like me love to have music.  You can have that on in the background as you are working out.   There are various speeds you can utilize when you use the elliptical or treadmill.  As mentioned earlier, it is crucial that you listen to your body. It will tell you everything you need to know in terms of working out and what is the perfect fit for you and your body type. If you do these little things along the way, you will be very happy with how you look and feel.  As the saying goes:

“When you feel good, when you look good, you feel better.”

There is no time like the present to get started with these workouts.  After all, the quicker you get started, the quicker you will see results to your liking. A lot of people hear about working out, and they are turned off by the prospect of it.  It doesn’t have to be that way ever. After all, for many people, working out is very fun, therapeutic and healthy. Life can be very stressful and hectic, especially when working long office hours or having children.  It is important to have a healthy outlet for all of that stress. If not, it bottles up inside of you and creates even more stress.

G.O.Y.A. Principle.

If you are not happy about the way you look and how things have changed, you have to remember that you are in control of this situation.  You can do something about it, you can be happier. There are tools and resources out there for Efficient workouts that don’t cost an arm and a leg.  With walking, that one is completely free. A bike, an elliptical, or a treadmill can be found online at discounted prices. Your body will thank you for many years for taking care of it. Just use the GOYA principle. Get off your ass.
